Product Design

When I attended the Bartlett School of Architecture Summer Program in 2019, I was taken to the British Museum to find inspiration for my project, and this sculpture called Ring of Small Petals appealed to me. It is made by Mori Junko in response to the Great Earthquake that struck Japan in 2011.

RING OF SMALL PETALS, MORI JUNKO, BRITISH MUSEUM

Process

During an earthquake, the energy radiates outward in the form of seismic waves. In Junko’s work, I personally observed the pattern of the waves, which reminded me of the movement in nature.

After observing how Junko shaped the metals in a flow, I studied the texture and the movement of the metals.
